Acne and Light Therapy: Does Color Really Matter?

Acne and Light Therapy: Does Color Really Matter?

If you've struggled with breakouts, you've probably heard that "light therapy helps with acne" — but the full story is more specific than that.

Blue light, typically around 415nm, works by targeting the bacteria associated with acne. It triggers a reaction inside the bacteria that's toxic to the bacteria itself, helping to reduce the breakouts at their source.

Red light, on the other hand, works differently. At wavelengths around 630nm, it focuses on calming inflammation and supporting the skin's natural healing process — which is especially helpful for the redness and irritation that often follows a breakout.

This is why a combination approach tends to work best: blue light to address the bacterial side, and red light to support healing and reduce visible redness afterward.

Clinical studies show measurable improvements in acne spotting within 6-8 weeks of consistent use, making patience and routine just as important as the technology itself.
